Bhaktapur Durbar Square: Bhaktapur was the capital of Nepal during the great Malla Kingdom. Bhaktapur has the best-preserved palace courtyards and old city center in Nepal and is listed as a world heritage site of UNESCO for its rich culture, temples, and wood, metal and stone artworks. You will be taken to the attraction sites such as Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Nyatapola Temple, BhairabNath Temple, Dattatreya Temple. Boudhanath Stupa: Situated on the northeastern outskirts of Kathmandu, this is another holy place for Buddhists. Breakfast included.
To begin your journey, drive to Sundarijal (1350m), which takes about an hour. From there, you'll walk uphill to Chisopani. The paved road from Kathmandu eventually turns into a trail near a small hydroelectric plant. The trail cuts through the Shivapuri Watershed and Wildlife Reserve. The first settlement you'll encounter is Mulkharka, home to Tamang inhabitants. The route descends down the ridge through a forest of oaks and rhododendrons to Chisopani (2300m). Chisopani is known for its cold weather and offers magnificent views from Annapurna to Everest. You'll stay overnight at a lodge. (B/L/D)
The trail continues to descend from Chisopani on a good, sometimes level path that crosses meadows and fields. You will then descend through Pathi Bhanjyang to reach Gul Bhanjyang. Next, the trail climbs the ridge from Gul Bhanjyang to another pass at 2620m. The meadow provides a good camping spot, then it's downhill to Kutumsang at 2470m, located in a saddle atop the ridge. (B/L/D)
After having breakfast, we headed to Tharepati. The trail climbs above Kutumsang on a steep, eroded trail, mostly through fir and rhododendron forests where there are no permanent settlements. The trail then descends gradually to Magen Goth. There are a few lodges. The trail gradually ascends through the enchanting forest, enriched with beautiful rhododendron, oak, and other trees. Tharepati offers a breathtaking view of the snow-capped mountains, such as Dorje Lakpa, Gaurishankar, Langshisa, Jugal, Numbur, and many others. (B/L/D)
Today, we
are heading from Tharepati. The trail steeply descends through the pine and
rhododendron forest, offering great views down into the Helambu valley and
across to Jugal Himal and Numbur in the Solu Khumbu. Melamchi Gaon is
surrounded by beautiful forests and is mainly inhabited by Sherpa people with
their distinctive culture. Leaving Melamchi Gaon, you trek along the descending
path until you cross the stream named Melamchi. You may pass through Sherpa
settlements. Tarkeghyang is a beautiful Sherpa village with one of the oldest
and biggest monasteries. Also known as Helambu, Tarkeghyang is named after the
Helmu caste, to which the Sherpa people living there originally belong. We will
stay overnight at a lodge. (B/L/D)
Embark on a scenic 3-hour trek to Timbu, followed by a comfortable 4-hour drive to Kathmandu in a private vehicle. Enjoy an overnight stay in Kathmandu.(B)

The Langtang Helambu Trek is a captivating trekking route in Nepal that offers stunning mountain scenery, diverse landscapes, and rich cultural experiences. Stretching through the Langtang Valley and Helambu region, this trek allows hikers to explore lush forests, terraced fields, and traditional villages while enjoying breathtaking views of the Langtang Himal range. It's an excellent choice for trekkers looking to immerse themselves in nature and local culture.
The ideal times to embark on the Langtang Helambu Trek are during spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). These seasons offer clear skies, mild temperatures, and vibrant flora, enhancing your trekking experience. Winter (December to February) can bring cold temperatures and snow, while the monsoon season (June to August) may lead to heavy rainfall, making trails muddy and less accessible.
The Langtang Helambu Trek is considered moderate to challenging, making it suitable for trekkers with a reasonable level of fitness and some prior trekking experience. The trails feature steep ascents and descents, and the highest point on the trek, Kyanjin Ri, is approximately 4,773 meters (15,650 feet). It's essential to acclimatize properly to prevent altitude sickness, especially at higher elevations.
While trekking independently is possible, hiring a local guide is highly recommended. A guide can navigate the trails, offer cultural insights, and ensure your safety. Additionally, hiring a guide supports the local economy and enhances your trekking experience. Many trekkers opt for group treks, providing companionship and shared experiences along the way.
Accommodation on the Langtang Helambu Trek primarily consists of teahouses and lodges. These establishments provide basic amenities, including meals and often hot showers. While the accommodations can be simple, they typically offer a warm and welcoming atmosphere, allowing for interaction with other trekkers and local residents.
The highest point on the Langtang Helambu Trek is Kyanjin Ri, standing at approximately 4,773 meters (15,650 feet). While this altitude is manageable for many trekkers, it's essential to acclimatize properly and be aware of any symptoms of altitude sickness, such as headaches, nausea, or dizziness.
Yes, mobile network coverage is available along most parts of the Langtang Helambu Trek, especially in populated areas like Kyanjin Gompa and the villages in Helambu. However, coverage can be inconsistent, so it’s advisable to check with your local provider regarding international roaming options before your trek.
Yes! The Langtang Helambu Trek can be extended or combined with other trekking routes in the region. Many trekkers choose to explore additional areas, such as Gosaikunda, a sacred alpine lake, or continue into the Langtang National Park. Consult your guide or tour operator for tailored options that fit your interests and schedule.
Safety is crucial while trekking. Always inform someone of your itinerary, carry a fully charged mobile phone, and remain aware of your surroundings. If trekking solo, consider joining a group for added safety. Familiarize yourself with basic first aid and be vigilant for signs of altitude sickness. Always trust your instincts—if something feels off, don't hesitate to turn back or seek assistance.
