I was lucky to meet Devi through others friend. He is very friendly and nice guy who helped us a lot in arranging our ABC Trek. I am very thankful for that. See you next time in Nepal !
We did a 15-day trek to Everest Base Camp with Odea Services, with previously done Annapurna Base camp with them too! We were looked after extremely well on the trek, with Devi always in the background helping us with any problems on the way. Couldn’t have achieved this without the team! Needless to say, we will be back in Nepal doing more tours with Odea in the future :)
The Everest Base Camp Trek is a renowned trekking route in the Everest region of Nepal, leading to the base camp of Mount Everest, the world's highest mountain. It's a challenging yet immensely rewarding journey that takes trekkers through breathtaking landscapes, remote Sherpa villages, and iconic viewpoints.
The trek typically takes around 12-14 days, depending on the specific itinerary chosen and individual pacing. This duration includes both trekking and acclimatization days.
The best time for the Everest Base Camp Trek is during the pre-monsoon (spring) season from March to May and the post-monsoon (autumn) season from September to November. These months offer stable weather conditions, clear skies, and the best visibility of the surrounding peaks.
Prior trekking experience is not mandatory, but it's recommended to have a moderate level of fitness and some hiking experience, as the trek involves long days of walking at high altitudes. Regular exercise and cardiovascular training in preparation for the trek are advisable.
Everest Base Camp is located at an altitude of approximately 5,364 meters (17,598 feet) above sea level. Trekkers usually spend some time at base camp to enjoy the views of Mount Everest and surrounding peaks.
Trekkers need two permits for the Everest Base Camp Trek: the Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit and the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entrance Permit. These permits can be obtained in Kathmandu or directly in the Khumbu region.
Altitude sickness, or acute mountain sickness (AMS), is a potential risk due to the high altitude of the trek. It's important to acclimatize properly by ascending gradually, staying hydrated, and recognizing the symptoms of AMS. Trekking itineraries are designed to allow for acclimatization days at strategic points along the route.
Accommodation along the trekking route ranges from basic tea houses to more comfortable lodges with basic amenities such as beds, blankets, and meals. Tea houses are available in most villages along the trail, providing a convenient and authentic trekking experience.
Essential items to pack for the trek include appropriate clothing layers for varying temperatures, sturdy hiking boots, a sleeping bag suitable for cold temperatures, trekking poles, sunscreen, sunglasses, a first aid kit, and personal toiletries. A detailed packing list can be provided by trekking agencies or found online.
Yes, hiring a guide and/or porter is common and recommended for those who are less experienced or prefer additional support during the trek. Guides provide valuable insights into the local culture and terrain, while porters can assist with carrying heavy loads, allowing trekkers to focus on enjoying the journey.
