Annapurna Base Camp Trek Itinerary Overview
The Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) Trek is one of the most iconic and rewarding trekking journeys in Nepal, taking trekkers deep into the heart of the Annapurna Sanctuary. This trek combines dramatic Himalayan landscapes, rich cultural experiences, and diverse natural environments ranging from subtropical forests to high alpine terrain. The route passes through traditional Gurung and Magar villages, terraced farmlands, dense rhododendron forests, and ultimately leads to the breathtaking amphitheater of towering peaks at Annapurna Base Camp (4130 m).
The journey typically begins in Kathmandu, followed by a scenic drive or flight to Pokhara, the gateway to the Annapurna region. From Pokhara, the trek officially starts with a drive to Nayapul and then continues on foot through Ulleri, Ghorepani, Tadapani, Sinuwa, Deurali, and finally ABC. Each day brings changing landscapes and cultural encounters, making the trek both physically engaging and emotionally rewarding. With Odea Services, trekkers experience a well-organized itinerary, professional guidance, and a safe journey through one of Nepal’s most beautiful trekking regions.
Key Highlights:
Walk through UNESCO-listed cultural landscapes and traditional villages

The best time to undertake the Annapurna Base Camp Trek is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons. These periods offer stable weather conditions, clear mountain views, and comfortable trekking temperatures. Spring is especially beautiful due to blooming rhododendrons that color the forests in vibrant red, pink, and white, creating a magical trekking atmosphere.
Autumn, on the other hand, is considered the peak trekking season in Nepal. After the monsoon rains, the skies become crystal clear, offering spectacular visibility of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. The temperature is moderate, and the trails are generally dry and safe, making it ideal for both beginner and experienced trekkers. Winter (December to February) is possible but colder at higher elevations, while monsoon (June to August) brings heavy rain and slippery trails.
With Odea Services, trekkers receive seasonal guidance to choose the best departure dates, ensuring safety, comfort, and the best possible Himalayan views.
Key Seasonal Points:
Spring (Mar–May): Rhododendron blooms, pleasant weather
Autumn (Sep–Nov): Best visibility, stable conditions
Winter: Cold but fewer crowds
Monsoon: Rainy, slippery, limited visibility
Best overall recommendation: Spring and Autumn
The Annapurna Base Camp Trek is considered a moderate-level trek, suitable for beginners with reasonable fitness as well as experienced trekkers. While no technical climbing skills are required, the trek involves long walking hours, steep ascents and descents, and altitude gain up to 4130 meters. Proper acclimatization, pacing, and physical preparation are essential for a successful journey.
Transportation plays an important role in this itinerary. The journey begins with a flight or drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara. From Pokhara, a short drive takes trekkers to Nayapul, the starting point of the trek. Throughout the trek, travel is primarily on foot, following stone staircases, forest trails, and mountain paths. After completing the trek at Jhinu Danda and Nayapul, travelers return by road to Pokhara and then back to Kathmandu via flight or drive.
Odea Services ensures smooth logistics, including transportation arrangements, experienced guides, and porter support, making the journey more comfortable and less physically demanding for trekkers.
Difficulty & Transport Highlights:
Moderate difficulty with steep ascents and descents
Maximum altitude: 4130 m (ABC)
Requires 5–7 hours of walking per day on average
No technical climbing required
Kathmandu–Pokhara: flight or tourist vehicle
Pokhara–Nayapul: jeep or private transport
Trekking on foot throughout the trail
Supported by Odea Services guides and porters
Accommodation during the Annapurna Base Camp Trek is primarily in local teahouses and lodges operated by villagers along the route. These accommodations are simple but comfortable, offering basic rooms with twin beds, blankets, and shared bathrooms in most places. As altitude increases, facilities become more basic, but the hospitality of the local people remains warm and welcoming.
Food options along the trail include a mix of traditional Nepali meals and simple international dishes. The most common and recommended meal is Dal Bhat (rice, lentil soup, vegetables, and pickles), which provides high energy for trekking. Other available items include noodles, pasta, soups, fried rice, eggs, pancakes, and tea or coffee. Hygiene and freshness are generally maintained, but menu variety decreases at higher altitudes.
Odea Services ensures trekkers are well-informed about food safety, hydration, and healthy eating habits during the trek. Proper nutrition is essential for maintaining energy and avoiding altitude-related fatigue.
Accommodation & Food Highlights:
Teahouse/lodge-based accommodation throughout trek
Basic but clean rooms with twin sharing
Hot meals available at every stop
Popular food: Dal Bhat (energy-rich and unlimited refills in many places)
Limited menu at higher elevations
Boiled water, tea, and coffee widely available
Warm hospitality from local communities
Odea Services ensures safe and hygienic food guidance
To complete the Annapurna Base Camp Trek, trekkers must obtain certain official permits issued by the Nepal government. These permits are mandatory and are checked at various entry points along the trail. The two main permits required are the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and the Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) card.
The ACAP permit is used to support conservation efforts within the Annapurna region, helping preserve wildlife, forests, and local communities. The TIMS card, on the other hand, ensures trekker safety by maintaining records of individuals entering the trekking routes. Both permits are essential for legal trekking and contribute to sustainable tourism development in Nepal.
Odea Services handles all permit arrangements for trekkers, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free process before the journey begins. This allows travelers to focus fully on the experience rather than administrative procedures.
Permit Requirements:
Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP)
Trekkers’ Information Management System (TIMS) Card
Passport copy and photos required for issuance
Checked at multiple trekking checkpoints
Mandatory for all foreign trekkers
Fees contribute to conservation and local development
